i'm a dancer.
and i've been dancing for my entire life.
dancing is still the biggest part of my daily life even though it isn't
the biggest part of my artistic practice.
i specialised in streetdance/hiphop which isn't a style that can be brought into art spaces very easily.
for me, dancing is a way of gaining control while letting go.
it's controllably releasing energy to the floor and getting it back.
it's the "bounce".
for me, dancing is separating the body from my thoughts and aligning them.
it's putting emotions into the body, condensing and processing them and finally putting it back into the mind, nicely ordered.
it's the "pop".
i want to change the way people think about dancing
so here are some pure truths about dancing:
-
hip hop is the most sophisticated dance style
-
dancing hip hop is the highest achievable art
-
all hip hop dancers are healthier than other or non-dancers
-
hip hop performances should be exhibited in galleries and eventually museums
